A Fair in a Park
Castilla y León, Spain
2024

The proposal recognises the site’s historic context and location — its proximity to the Carrión River and Javier Cortés Park, and its position at the heart of La Vega de Valdavia, where it continues to bridge modernity and tradition. This multi-use ground — the main building, its pergolas and the adjacent municipal sports centre — once formed a distinctive urban still life of diverse forms and proportions. Today, the site is disparate and underused. The proposal unifies the fragmented fairground with the city through material and configuration.
The spatial configuration establishes coexistence with what pre-exists. A hierarchy emerges from a core of programmatic elements serving the remaining dependencies; the porches allow the exterior spaces to be occupied. The central multipurpose hall is extended by two plazas that reconfigure the plot and, together with the connecting plaza at the front, complete the appropriation of the surroundings. The project seeks paradise by transcending its functionality.
