The challenge is to design an urban park that can double as an informal vegetable market in the heart of New Delhi, along Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road.

The linear site is conceived as a seamless promenade with an elevated walkway — bent, punctured and aligned to protect the existing tree cover. At ground level, it accommodates a host of everyday functions: a vegetable market, craft shops, and temporary housing for the farmers who come to sell their produce.

It is the antithesis of the public project that imagines a stand-alone building on the site to house the market.
